Senior Harriers Weekly Update w/c 8th June

Ah went to Blaydon Races, ‘twas on the ninth of Joon, In eighteen hundred an’ sixty-two, on a summer’s efternoon; Ah tyuk the ‘bus fare Balmbra’s, an’ she wis heavy laden, Away we went alang Collingwood Street, that’s on the road to Blaydon.Ah me lads, ye shud only seen us gannin’, We pass’d the foaks upon the road just as they wor stannin’; Thor wes lots o’ lads an’ lasses there, all wi’ smiling faces, Gawn alang the Scotswood Road, to see the Harrier aces…anyway, enough of that geordie language.

To summarise, on the 9th of June a group of Harriers took to the random 5.7m distance road race from Newcastle to Blaydon. In a field of 3812 Paul Cook was first to finish for the club in 33:43 for 126th, Peter Armstrong 36:11 (270th), Sue Phillips 36:27 (288th) as well as being second FV50, Steven Wilkinson 38:14 (477th), 2nd claim Neil Smith 39:17 (607th), young flying machine Jade Hutchinson finished in 40:26, Martin Phillips running after a long lay-off finished 41:03 (889th), Emma Morley 43:53 (1344th), Charlotte Knowles 43:54 (1348th) had great runs finishing virtually together. Shirley Gibson 48:17 (2070th) as well as being first in her age category, Anne Hutchinson crossed the line in a very respectable 48:38 (2147th) and Ian Barnes got another race under his belt crossing the line in 53:22 (2862th).

Nearly 300 runners turned up at South Park on Saturday morning.Paul Helliwell, sporting an ever expanding beard put his hair-o-dynamics to good use by taking a massive 30 seconds of his parkrun PB to finish 5th in 18:17.Paul, who has recently joined the club and returned to running has really been showing off his skills at the track of late so this has come as no surprise to anyone!

19 minute pacer, Paul Cook finished 10th in 18:48 after giving 8th and 9th placed runners some ‘encouragement’ in the last km. Andrew Park 12th in huge new PB of 19:14 after having a bash for that sub 19minute time. Jeff “the machine” Miller smashed his PB time to finish 19th in 20:19….surely he can’t PB 2 days in a row. Graham “the watcher” Garvey finished in 23rd place and 20:39 taking Craig Stoddart with him for 27th , 20:55 and Steven Elliott around with him who missed his PB by 1 second for 21 minutes dead.

New member James Parkinson had another good run and finished in 34th for 21:07.Sub 20 will be in the reach of this group very soon.Les Curtis finished 1 place behind James and 6 seconds after a much more even paced run followed by Steven Wilkinsonin 36th in 21:21,who has had 2 solid runs on his return from injury.Good to see you back Steven!Sean Connolly finished 43rd in 21:36 with Juris Silovs 49th in 21:49.Peter “the pacer” Armstrong pacing 22 mins this week ran an even race to finish 52nd in 21:55 with starlet Jade Hutchinson finishing 54th in the same time for a massive PB and first time under 22mins.Well done Jade.

Andrew Glencross finished 64th in 22:23, with Simon Rogers strolling around in 22:27 for 66th, saving his legs for Sunday’s race.Simon Daniel finished 73rd in a solid 22:43 and Balbinder Singh 23:01 for 79th. Tai Charlton finished 113th in 25:19, Anne Hutchinson 125th in 25:58 after a good run at Blaydon, Joanne Tonkin 127th in 26:01, Kate Bower 176th in 28:27 and Brian Burdon 223rd in 30:57.Johnny, James and Joanne Hindmarsh finished in 234th, 270th and 271st respectively in 31:48, 37:01 and 37:15.

Over at Tees Barrage, 143 runners took to the start line.Dom Colley taking up a bit of parkrun tourism got a new course PB finishing 7th in 21:03.Another great performance, well done Dom.

Heather Mochrie and Dave McKenna attempted the tough Swaledale Marathon across some serious tough climbs and off road running. Two time ladies winner Heather Mochrie made it Three by winning the ladies race in a time of 3:44 with Dave finishing in a very respectable 3:55 for 31st place. Huge respect to you both.Official results are not published at this time.

On Sunday, 11 Harriers swooped over to join another 205 runners on the flat but weather impacting course for the Everyone Active 10k.The black clouds pre race and cross sea front wind didn’t stop Colin Taylor finishing first Harrier in a time of 37:02 for 16th place followed shortly by both Paul Cook 37:15 in 18th and Simon Rogers 37:33 in 19th who had both stopped for a lemon top en route. Nathan Hemingbrough, running only his second 10k even ran a new PB time of 39:11 for 34th,with Peter Armstrong closely behind in 39:47 42nd.

Justin Hindmarch finished in 41:12 and 58th position with a new PB to boot with Sue Phillips finished in 59th place with a strong run of41:13 with. Jeff Miller smashed his PB to pieces and then some finishing in 65th in a time of 41:38.Ladies captain Linda Noble finished 81st in 43:38 with Martin Phillips getting a second race under his belt for 90th in 44:46.The ever improving Andrew Glencross finished 107th in 46:28.His old PB has packed his suitcase and retired to a new secure location and is never returning..
