The second NYSD track meeting of the season took place at Eastbourne in Darlington on Tuesday April 28th. The Harriers senior sectionw as well represented in the 800m with U20 man Karl Challand running a superb time of 01:57:07 followed by Joseph O'Hare (Also U20) in 2:06:02. In the second heat Paul Helliwell crossed the line in 2:28:02 before heat three runners Mark Tallon (2:29:00) and Darren Stockdale (2:44:8). As the wind grew and the rain started Curtis Metcalfe won the 100m in 12.2 seconds before Mark Tallon (14.6) and Paul Helliwell (15.2) competed in heat two.
On Wednesday April 29th Sue Phillips finished the Spring Coast Road 5k in Redcar with a time of 20:13.
At the weekly Parkrun event at Southpark in Darlington the club continued it's recent record of impressive turnouts and results. Colin Taylor continued to be the first Harrier home in a time of 18:15. Paul Cook finished in 18:49 (Working as a pacer for sub 19min runners) after his exploints in London last week closely followed by Paul Helliwell (18:51) and Natham Hemmingbrough in a PB time of 18:54. Justin Hindmarch achieved his second PB in a month with a time of 19:31 ahead of Simon Rogers in 19:32 (Working as a pacer for sub 20min runners), David McKenna (19:44), Mark Robinson (19:47), Peter Armstrong (20:03) and Corinne Murray (21:06). There followed a surge of PBs for Val Clarke (21:12), Les Curtis (21:22), Andrew Glencross (22:07), Charlotte Knowles (23:12) and Lesley Miller (23:24). Shirley Gibson followed them in 25:07 with Simon Daniels finishing in 28:22. Tai Charlton crossed the line in 30:26. Although a senior report, juniors James Roberts, Liam Brittle, Emma Hart, Keely Scott & Joseph Kearney also deserve a mention for their efforts too. On Sunday in awful conditions in Sunderland Simon Rogers finished the Sunderland Half Marathon in 18th place in a time of 1:21:09 ahead of Paul Cook (1:21:42). Beginners coach Anneli Mackenzie-Brown finished in a PB time of 2:04:00. At the Sunderland 10k Simon Daniels knocked a massive 2 minutes off his PB to finish in a time of 49:30.
Also braving bad weather second claim runner Tori Green who took part in the North Lincolnshire Half Marathon in Scunthorpe. Just a week after finishing in London Tori was first lady in a time of 1:23:14.
The worst run for bad conditions however was the Harmoors White Horse Marathon which took place on the moors on Sunday. Despite the mud and an unplanned detour taking her distance up to 29 miles (!) Heather Mochrie won the event in a time of 4 hours 39 mins!
In Belfast Sharon Barlow Hamilton was 4th home and first Northern Irish lady in the Belfast City Marathon with a time of 2:57:01..
First back in the windy Tees Barrage 10k was Colin Taylor in 37:15 ahead of Paul Cook (38:09), Sue Phillips (41:49) and Justin Hindmarch (42:13). Jeff Miller was next in with 43:15 ahead of Dominic Colley (43:51), Paul Keedy (44:34) and Lesley Miller (49:55). Charlotte Knowles completed her first run as a Harrier with a time of 51:59 and Shirley Gibson completed the Harriers team with a time of 53:29.
