Senior Harriers Weekly Update w/c 4th January

The first full week of the New Year and already the racing calendar is starting to look full for everyone.On last week’s report Barry Bell was missed off the report as he was showing as ‘unaffiliated’…how very dare you! This was Barry’s first parkrun and finished in 53rd place in a time of 22:03.

We also saw the engagement of Gemma Raper and Martin McGregor and would like to wish you both all the best from everyone at the club.

Nathan Smith took on Bowstones fell race on New Year’s Eve of all days.In a field of 343 Nathan finished 37th in his first fell race in a time of 50:40. Last Sunday we mentioned that Sue Phillips and Brian Burdon ran the Old Monk’s race at hart Village Hartlepool.Results have now been published and from a field of 304 runners Sue finished 42nd place in 35:54 but also won first lady with Brian finishing 264th in 53:27.Well done both of you, great running on a difficult course.

On Saturday morning Darlington South Park run saw a record turnout with 341 runners ready for the mornings run.Simon Rogers was first to finish for the club in 3rd in 18:14 followed by Paul Helliwell in 4th in 18:20 and Paul Cook in 5th in 18:54.Nathan Hemingbrough followed the trio vets home in 7th in 19:23 with John Dunne again putting in a PB performance to finish 16th in 20:07.Andrew Dobson put in another solid run as he continues to battle his injury problems finishing 18th in 20:12 with Stuart Armstrong another Harrier to walk away with a PB after finishing 21st in 20:24 with Craig Stoddart perched on his shoulder one place and one second further back.

Jade Hutchinson finished first lady and 26th overall in 20:54 for a new PB and beat Elite RZH athlete Shona Fletcher across the line.Junior runner Dylan Wilson finished 29th in 21:04, Harry Wilson 30th in 21:05 with man in tight Ian Morris 33rd in 21:19. Graham O’Hara finished 38th in 21:25 with Juris Silovs one place and eight seconds behind.Michael Sangster was next across the line in 42nd in 21:55 for a new PB with Pauline Brown one place and one second further behind.Jamie Baldasera finished 46th as he also stormed to a new PB and was followed home by Mark Haymer making only his 6th appearance at the park in 49th in 22:07.Sean Connolly finished 58th in 22:43 finishing a single second and place ahead of Emma Morley who was one place ahead of Darlington’s answer to Barbara Woodhouse, Dave McKenna who finished 60th in 22:52, Steve Elliott 62nd in 23:01, Robert Austin 63rd in 23:02 and Charlotte Knowles 64th in 23:03.

Lesley Miller finished 70th in 23:24, Simon Daniels, who’s heading to his 100th parkrun finished 76th in 23:42 and new runner Jonathan Boyle 80th in 23:53.Michael Watson finished 83rd in 23:58 on only his 9th parkrun followed by (I think) new runner Karl Hume in 86th in around 24 minutes. #DFYBC.Steve McAllister finished 87th in 24:02 followed by Iain Girard who finished 91st for a new PB in 24:11.Shirley Gibson finished 98th in 24:44 on her 238th parkrun with Dave Hamer finalising the top 100 in 24:51.Gemma Raper finished 116th in 25:31 followed by Wes Atkins on his second parkrun and John Brant who finished 157th in 27:15.Brian Burdon finished 201st in 29:10 followed backby Sarah Neve in 241st in 31:58 on her 11th park visit and Stephen Dauber 247th in 32:11.

Meanwhile over in Hartlepool Peter Armstrong and Andrew Glencross made the short trip for the out and back run.In a field of 130 Peter was first to finish in 15th in 19:42, 4 parkruns short of his century with Andrew in 24th in 21:19 for a new Personal Best.Over in Middlesboro at Stewarts Park, Paul Keedy and Graham Garvey were part of a field of 267runners for their first visit to the 5k run.Graham was first home in 15th in 21:23 with Paul 17th four seconds behind.Course PB then…..?

Meanwhile up Edinburgh the Portobello parkrun was cancelled but that didn’t stop Darren Stockdale and David Aiken having a wander around the course.Who needs marshal’s aye boys!

On Saturday we saw a number of our second claim runners competing in the Yorkshire XC league.

In the ladies race, over at a guess 8km or so Lorraine Mitchell finished 30th position in 37:58 in a strong field of 138, with Emma Robinson shortly behind in 32nd in 38:04.Strong running ladies.

The 269 men competed in the 10,400m race…an odd distance I agree, Nathan Smith finishing 160th in 48:08.Well done that man.

On Saturday evening Matt Capsey along with Heather Mochrie, David McKenna and Mike King, headed over to Cleveland to compete in the 7.8mile, 3000ft climb fell race.The conditions on Saturday night can only be described as horrid at best so I will be surprised if there are any photos to share but if there are would love to see those guys and gal!

Results have yet to be published but Heather crossed the line as 1st lady.More from Matt, Heather, Dave and Mike next week.

 

Due to the XC being postponed again a handful of Harriers headed over to compete in the Fishburn handicap multi terrain race over 6.5m (approx.).Judging by the photo’s it may have been a little muddy on the way round.Although results have yet to be published we can confirm that Jade completed a good weekend of running by finishing first lady on the day.More on Andrew, Dom, Jamie, Sean, Lesley and Jade.Well done all of you
