Senior Harriers Weekly Update w/c 1st June
The lull before the storm……a fairly quiet week of running for the Harriers this week.Missing from last week’s report we had 2 other runners up in Scotland running the Edinburgh Half Marathon.Graham Bell finished 552nd overall but 3rd in his age category (V25 so he tells me) and Tom Leighton took a huge chunk of his PB despite pacing his friend round and finished in 1:41:54.Well done both of you, two great performances.
On windy Tuesday night Paul Cook and Sharon Barlow, on her first race back from injury ran at a Thirsk in a 5 mile off road race.In a field of 347 Paul finished 15th in 30:13, 3rd V40 with Sharon finishing 23rd and 2nd lady in 30:45 and 1st FV35.
At the club AGM we said a sad fair well to Martin Phillips who has stepped down as chairman of the club and who has tirelessly worked away in the back ground to move our club forward including the recent introduction of the gym/track membership at Eastbourne complex. The good news is that Martin will continue to run for the club alongside us once he has fully returned from injury.Dan Hunter has stepped into the chairman’s role and will continue the great work Martin has been leading for the club. Please give Dan all your support where necessary.
For the 3rd week in a row Darlington parkrun achieves a new attendance record and this is partly down to the growing number of Harriers.327 brave souls braved the hurricane wind (well slight breeze) to run the 3 lap course.Simon Rogers was first home for the club in 6th position in 18:12, followed by Paul Cook and Colin Taylor who finished in the same time 18:17 for 8th and 10th place. Ken Harker from RZH also finishing in 18:17 split the two veteran harriers.I always said having a big nose would come in handy one day…today was that day! Graham Hindmarsh who will be training with the club shortly finished 7th in 18:16…seems to be a regular occurrence with Graham finishing 1 place and second ahead of me. Terrific run Graham.
Paul Helliwell finished 12th in another consistent outing of 18:48 with Dave McKenna 2 places behind him in 19:20 as well as being first Geordie club runner home.Andy Park put in a PB performance and finished in 19:37, consistent pacing paying off for 18th place with wife Clare 91st in 23:05. Youngster James Roberts finished 25th in 20:10 followed shortly after by Darren Stockdale in 27th for 20:13, a really great run by him.Graham Garvey finished 29th a week after his exploits north of the border finishing in 20:27 with James Parkinson 36th in 20:51 for a new shiny PB.What was more of a surprise to him was that he was a Darlington Harrier but as you all know, it’s only a matter of time before he will be…see you Thursday James!
Speedy Keedy PB’d again this week in 21:02 and 40th….and who said joining the Harriers people wouldn’t get quicker! Liam Brittle and ladies captain Linda Noble followed Paul Keedz home in 41st and 42nd position and 21:02, 21:07 respectively with marathon man Steve Elliott finding his legs again to finish 47th in 21:32 with Juris Silovs 1 second and one place behind. Tracey Owen finished 56th in 21:58Andrew Glencross finished 65th in 22:25 with future starlet Jade Hutchinson 74th in 22:38.Usain Bolt aka Les Curtis finished 83rd in 22:56, with the PB queen Lesley Miller finishing in 95th in 23:11.Charlotte Knowles finished 105th in 23:57 with Tai Charlton in 111th for 24:14.Some great times over the last 3 weeks by Lesley, Charlotte and Tai all through some hard work in training.Shirley Gibson finished 124th in 24:58, another positive run after her layoff with Joanne Tonkin finishing 129th in 25:26.Anne Hutchinson finished 140th in 25:52 just short of her PB time.
Friends of the club Craig Stoddart had another positive run finishing 44th in 21:09 with Balbinder Singh 93rd in 23:07, showing signs of his old self. Stacey Dobson running in Andy’s absence finished 184th in 28:29.Graham’s Hindmarsh’s wife, Joanne finished in 303rd in 37:52 with Juniors Johnny and James Hindmarsh finishing in 182nd in 28:26 for a new PB with James 290th t in 35:55. Amanda Garvey finished 275th in 34:14 after a hard half marathon last week.
Over in Hartlepool Justin Hindmarch was the lone Harrier to take to the 77 strong field finishing 5th in 19:59.A new course PB (granted it was his first time but they all count). There were concerns that Justin may have been at risk with treatment of other local residents previously experiencing some immigration issues when leaving the area.
See you all at Blaydon, Training, Parkrun or Everyone active next week.
