Senior Harriers Weekly Update w/c 19th October

As we lead into Halloween week we take a look back to this week’s races. On Saturday morning a number of Harriers headed over to Cleveland to compete in the Osmotherley 20k trail race. The route which takes runners out of the village on the Cleveland Way to the mast at Beacon Hill before heading back towards Cod Beck Reservoir. A short road section to Square Corner where the serious climbing begins on the long route, upwards onto the Black Hambleton Hills, where the views on a clear day will take your breath away as well as making the tightest of bum cheeks squeak before dropping back down after 3 miles towards Square Corner, returning to Osmotherley via the Cleveland Way. Dave was first to finish in 8th position in 1 hour 47 followed by Heather Mochrie who was first to finish in the ladies race despite going the wrong way with Dave finishing 10th in 1 hour 48. Corinne finished in an equally impressive 3rd place, 15th overall with husband Andy crossing the line in 2 hours16.

On Saturday morning down at South Park, Darlington the majority of runners had XC and Locke Park 10 mile race in mind as the foot was certainly off the gas…..but not for everyone. Friend of the club Mike Appleton tiptoed his way to victory on his first visit to the park finishing in 17:38 followed by Peter Armstrong in 6th place in 19:10 with the ‘unknown’ Sharon Barlow having a steady run to test her legs after a 6 week layoff in 7th in 19:11.  Andrew Dobson, coming back into some form and some restored confidence finishing 8th in 19:23. Justin Hindmarsh was next home in 11th place in 19:43 followed by sub 20 minute pacer Paul Cook one place and two seconds behind.

Garry Collinson just missed out on a PB by 5 seconds finishing 14th in 19:54 with Craig Stoddart finally breaking the 20minute barrier on his 95th parkrun. If there is ever an example to be followed of “if at first you don’t succeed…” then Craig is that example. Craig has peppered the 20 minute mark for week’s now missing by a second or two but on this occasion showed tremendous bravery to hang onto the pacer and then dig deep to finish in 19:56 for 16th place. Really great work Craig. John Dunne was another who really went for it by trying to break 20mins when he hadn’t broken 21. Go hard or go home aye John! John finished in a superb 20:42 for 23rd place with Stuart Armstrong 2 places and four seconds further back after a two week absence through injury.

Harriers then finished thick and fast starting with Sean Connolly in 27th in 21:10, David Tomlinson 1 place back and 6 seconds behind for a new PB, Juris Silvos a further place and 1 second behind and ultra-runner Mark Milner making a rare appearance to finish 32nd in 21:24. Next home was wonder girl, Jade Hutchinson who broke her parkrun PB to finish 35th in 21:32, Sam Talman 5 seconds behind in 36th with uncle Andy Park keeping him company for 37th in the same time. “Uncle Albert” Dave Hynes finished 39th for a new PB followed Ian Brown and Peter Foulds in 42nd and 43rd both in 21:55.  Graham Garvey, Pauline Brown and Steve McAllister finished in 45th, 46th and 47th in 22:06, 22:08 and 22:10. Pauline also broke her PB in the process, well done Pauline! Next home was Emma Morley in 60th in 22:43 followed by new member Gary Hill who finished one place behind in 22:47 for a new PB on his second visit just ahead of Lesley Miller in 62nd one second back followed by Bally Singh who was 72nd in 23:21.

Michael Sangster put in a PB performance on his 3rd visit taking over 30 seconds off to finish 90th in 24:10, Simon Daniels finished in 95th position in 24:22 with Anne Hutchinson 107th in 24:59. Julie Beck had another strong run finishing 115th in 25:28 ahead of Emily Halstead in 122nd in 25:54, new member James Gregory 124th in 25:58 over 2 mins of his PB on his second visit to the park and Jonny Hindmarsh in 26:31. Tina Corah finished in 164th in 27:26 followed by James Hindmarsh in 27:54 for 176th place and dad Graham one place and one second behind.

Brian Burdon finished 191st in 28:47 with Joanne Hindmarsh putting in an exceptional run today to finish 206th in 29:15. Stephen Dauber finished 214th in 29:47, Sarah Tomlinson having an easy run to finish in 229th in 30:30 and Shirley Gibson tail running at the back to ensure all runners finished safely.

Meanwhile at Albert Park, Middlesboro 4 Harriers formed part of a 243 strong field. Aly Williamson was first home for the club in 90th place in 25:13 on her first visit followed by Richard Easterbrook in 102nd in 26:09. Linda Tinkler finished 115th in 27mins dead with Andy Williamson 152nd in 28:53. Both runners on their first visit to the parkrun.
