Senior Harriers Weekly Update w/c 13th July
Last Sunday afternoon a group of Harriers took part in the Kilburn Feast 7.In a field of 251 Nathan Hemingbrough was first club finisher in 46:31 for 19th, Jeff Miller was next in 33rd in a time of 50:05, Corinne Murray was first lady club finisher 64th in 54:05, Charlotte Knowles finished 161st in 1:07:09, and Ian Barnes 167th after been overtaken by the “teenager” in 1:07:53.Lesley Miller and Stephanie Kingdon ran together finishing 184th and 185th in 1:10:33 and 1:10:34 respectively.Great example of teamwork.
Captains log, stardate 190715. On Tuesday night, the 6th and final fixture of the NYSD (North Yorkshire South Durham) track league took place at Middlesbrough sports village with DHAC athletes competing in a range of events.
The evening started with 800m races and the first heat was dominated by Darlington athletes.Karl Challand was first home in a brilliant 1:56.3 ahead of Jo O’Hara in 1:59.4,PB, Junior coach Adam Mitchell in 2:01.8 and Ben Lambert in 2:03.6 another to achieve a PB.In the second heat Senior Men’s team captain Mark Tallon finished in 2:20.5 for a new personal best with Mikayla Jorden finishing in a strong 2:33.6.
The sprinters were also out in force for the 100m. In the first heat of the evening Curtis Metcalfe continued his preparation for August’s Tartan Games with a swift 11.8 second run ahead of Luke Stockdale in 11.9 seconds.In the following heats Steve Bousfield ran 13.6, Mark Tallon 13.7, Joseph Dredge 13.8, Kieran Maxwell 15.5 and Freya Hardcastle 15.8.
The last race of the evening was the 1500m which featured Jeff Miller in his first race over the distance and Corinne Murray running her first track race since school.Jeff finished in a time of 5:23.2 and Corinne in a brilliant 5:42.3.Well done everyone, some really impressive times and results.
At the midweek New Marske 5km race, Harriers had good representation.Despite the slightly breezy conditions it was a night for fast times and the Harriers put in some really great performances.Simon Rogers smashed his PB to finish 20th in 17:24, with Sharon Barlow back in action after injury to finish 22nd in 17:30 and claim 2nd lady.Graham Hindmarsh also took a second or two of his PB to finish 23rd in 17:48 with Paul Cook next home in 18:17 in 31st position. Nathan Smith and Alison Matthews who both have recently trained with the club both PB’d finishing 42nd and 49th in 18:43 and 18:54 respectively. Peter Armstrong finished 56th in 19:16 with Barry Talman putting in yet another cracking run for a new PB of 19:29 for 61st position. Jeff Miller who has been a one man PB machine of late smashed 20 mins for the first time and achieved an amazing 19:41 for 68th position.
Andrew Park was next home in 73rd position in 19:57 with Sue Phillips shortly behind in 20:14 for 78th. Paul Keedy also smashed his personal best finishing 86th in a time of 20:39, outstanding work again Paul! Louise Talman finished 91st in an impressive 20:50 with ladies team captain shortly behind in 99th position in 21:02. Katie Noble was next home finishing 108th in 21:41 followed home by Martin Phillips in 109th in 21:59, great to see Martin back in action after a very long layoff.Clare Park finished 128th in an impressive 23:01 with Linda Tinkler ripping her old 5k time up into very small pieces and kicking it for a field goal.Linda crossed the line in 156th place in a time of 25:55, a huge PB for the recently joined Harrier.Joanne Hindmarsh took so much time off her personal best it was close to being illegal, tests for EPO use are ongoing.Joanne who has only been running a matter of weeks finished 191st in a time of 31:51.Amazing running by all Harriers!
On Thursday evening over at Fishburn, a number of Harriers donned the vest to compete in this 10k trail race.In a small field of 68, warhorse, Dave McKenna was first home in 39:29 in 8th position with Barry Talman next finishing 12th in 41:46.Andrew Park was 16th in 41:26,with Justin Hindmarch 2 places behind in 18th.Louise Talman finished fastest lady on the night picking up yet more silverware in a time of 43:10.One place behind was Dom Colley who finished in 43:51.Lesley Miller was next home in 35th in 48:10 with Tracey Owen finishing in 38th shortly behind.Charlotte Knowles was next homein 41st, Clare Park 49th in 49:02, Emily Halstead 52nd in 50:40 and Anneli Mackenzie-Brown 65th in 55mins.Awesome job guys and well done Louise!
Friday night Charlotte Knowles ran the Northern front runners 5k in Newcastle.In a very strong ladies field of 268, Charlotte finished in 19th place and smashed her PB in the process. Really great running Charlotte and much more to come from you.
On Saturday morning, 297 runners headed to South park for the 5k parkun.Drew Inglis made a rare appearance and finished 1st overall in a speedy 16:41.Next home was Colin Taylor who finished 5th in 17:43 followed by Alan Shepherd in 8th in 18:05 and Paul Helliwell in 9th place in 18:22.Jeff Miller, buoyed by his midweek 5km PB once again broke 20 mins to achieve a parkrun PB in 18th place in a solid 19:54.Dave McKenna acting as a pacer finished 19th in 20:01 with tom Leighton 2 place and eleven seconds further back.Justin Hindmarch finished 22nd in 20:15 with Peter Armstrong finishing 24th in 20:22.Craig Stoddart was 33rd in 20:52 and James Parkinson finishing 7 seconds shy of his PB in 35th place in a time of 20:56.Juris Silvos was 37th in 21:04, Sean Connolly had a strong run in 38th for 21:11 with Steven Elliott finished 43rd in 21:27.Lesley Miller smashed her PB by breaking 23 minutes finishing in 22:55 for 66th place.Simon Daniels finished 73rd in 23:10 with Emma Morley 2 places behind and 3 seconds back. Andy Dobson finished 108th in 24:50.Maybe 7+ minutes off his PB but this is progress after a series back injury…great to see him back. Tai Charlton finished 103rd in 24:41, new girl Laura ‘flaps’ McQuillan 136th in 26:08 with Linda Tinkler smashing another PB in theweek in 26:54.Tracey Owen was next home in 166th in 28:01, pram assisted PB Tracey??
Over at Sedgefield 2 lap parkun, 175 runners set out withAndrew Park was first finisher for the club in 11th place in a solid 20:39 in his first outing at this course.Youngster Sam Talman finished 34th in a sprightly 23:11 with sister Freya breaking 30mins in a time of 29:51 for 121st.Dad Barry finished 121st in the same time.Well done all.
129 runners headed to Tees Barrage with Lone Wolf Jamie Gardner taking in twisty course.On a windy morning Jamie finished 12th in 21:28.Well done Jamie, good time as well as flying the flag for the club!
On Saturday Heather Mochrie ran the Half Marathon leg at a Triathlon event somewhere (she is so secretive) in around 1 hour 35.I also hear it was a trail Half marathon and she was first lady but hopefully she will read this and let me have further details for next week’s report.Well done crazy horse!
Corinne Murray and Sharon Barlow headed down to the Yorkshire Wolds Half marathon with Paul Cook in tow after a last minute decision to run. Unbeknown to Paul and Sharon the course was mixed terrain with over 1000ft of elevation with a 3mile hill to run up at the end for good measure…thanks for that Corinne, your name was mud.Paul and Sharon ran thecourse together in around 1:32 and despite Sharon stopping for water on a couple of occasions like a thirsty desert lizard, she still claimed first lady and Corinne beat her time at Hadrian’s Wall half two weeks ago on what she described as a much harder course, finishing in the top 10 ladies also.
As non on line entries weren’t eligible for prizes or Yorkshire mugs which were replacing medals, we got two nice cups of coffee and a cup of tea….and managed to claim a mug too. #Winning!
The week ended where it started….at the track.Captain Mark Tallon headed down to York to compete in the 400metres event.Despite the windy conditions, Mark finished in 61.1 seconds, his 3rd best effort of the year! Well done Captain!
