NYSD Fixture 1 Whitby 04.10.15 Senior Report
#UTHXC!Sunday’s sunny weather saw the first fixture of the 2015/2016 NYSD Cross Country Season take place at Caedmon School, Whitby. Whitby Abbey give an impressive backdrop to the unusually dry course, with the Whitby fixture taking place earlier in the season than usual this year.
As well as two U17 women, Lucy Hunter & Katie Noble, and one U17 man, Sean Connolly, the 5.4k course had 10 senior Harriers take part.
Bernadette Caygill was first across the line in 23:23 followed by Sue Phillips in 23:53 and women’s captain Linda Noble in 24:43. Val Clarke followed in 24:58 ahead of Lesley Miller and Emma Morley who finished one behind the other in 26:32 and 26:47. Stephanie Kingdon, Anneli Mackenzie-Brown and Linda Tinker completed the team running their first cross country events for the club, finishing in 31:05, 32:51 and 33:00 respectively. Rose Rutherford completed the Harriers field with 38:55.
Fifteen senior men competed over the three lap 9.3k course . Drew Inglis finished 5th in 31:57, just pipped by junior coach Adam Mitchell running for Mandale. Colin Taylor came in with 34:41 ahead of Paul Helliwell in 34:56. Paul Cook ran a solid 35:11 with Jeff Miller behind in 37:24 in his first cross country race. Matt Capsey, 40:30 and Darren Stockdale 41:06 completed their first cross country races as Harriers. Barry Bell, another XC first timer finished in 42:31 with Steve Mcallister in 46:35 and Peter Foulds in 46:49. Andrew Glencross finished in 48:20 , Tai Charlton 48:50 with Iain Girard and Mark Tallon finishing together in 50:09.
The superb women’s team turnout allowed them to equal the team score achieved last year!
