The latest round of the championship and NYSD league was at the new venue of Ormesby Hall in Middlesbrough on Sunday 15th January. The mud made an otherwise fast course, interesting, but due to other school and road events, competitor numbers were down. Nonetheless we had some great results form those runners that were there with two individual winners in the U15 girls with India Pentland and the U17 girls with Lucy-Erin Hunter who seems back to her old race winning form, and the U15 girls were first team home again.
In the U11 boys, Jacob Rutter, more used to the track, had a great run to come home 6th O/A. In the U11 girls Shannon Robinson came home 2nd and not far behind in 3rd place was Zara Jones. Harry Wilson as once again our sole U13 boy but he had a great run to come home in 5th place. Then in the U13 girls race our only runner was Harriet Rogers in 5th place also, and managing to combine her swimming and running commitments to great effect. James Roberts was our first U15 boy home in 6th place followed by our other regular racer, Liam Brittle, in 10th. Our U15 girls continue to dominate and none more so than India Pentland who had another emphatic win. she was ably supported by Megan Noble in 4th and Ellie Phillips in 7th. Sadly we had no U17 boys racing but we saw the return of Lucy-Erin Hunter to cross country racing this year and her win in the U17 girls race was a great boost for her and all the more impressive as she was just outside the top 3 of the combined Senior/U17 race in 4th place overall. Katie Noble had another good run and came home 6th U17 girl.

The next few weeks are a busy time for our juniors with most of them running in the Durham Schools XC championships at Barnard Castle School next weekend on the 21st January. From this event the county team will be chosen for the schools Intercounties event at Kirby Stephen on the 4th February. The results from this will then be used to choose the Durham team for the English Schools National championships in Norwich on the 18th of March. In between these events we have 3 more NYSD events, Acklam 22nd Jan, Hartlepoll 5th Feb and Richmond 19th Feb. Within in all this are the UK National XC championships at Wollerton Park, Nottingham on the 25th February and the CAU intercounties at Loughborough on the 11th March. There is a lot to consider and some people will have to make a decision on which races are most important for them as it will be difficult to perform at their best for all of them.
Good Luck to all who are representing their Club, School and County over the next few weeks.
