A full team of athletes made the start line for the Royal Signals Relays at  Hetton Lyons Country Park yesterday, Saturday 6th March. A mixture of the old guard and the new recruits came home in 20th place. Phil Moore led out handing over to Paul Clifford. Paul ran hard to hand over to Josh Philips who ran the fastest leg of 11.56 and handed on to Tom West. Suffering from a sore throat Tom held his own and handed on to Graham Bell. Triathlete Graham passed the baton on to club president Ian Barnes who had the glory leg to cross the line well ahead of many athletes more than half his age. See a few photos.

Entry forms are now available for the Pitstop 10k race at Croft Circuit on Wednesday July 7th.

The Club has decided to re-introduce what used to be a very popular event and that is the Club Handicap races. They will be run on the evening of the 8th April at West Park via the entrance adjacent to Alderman Leach School. The first race (3k) will be for U15  athletes at 6.45pm and the second (5k) for all others at 7.00pm. There will be a "goody bag" for all competitors and as they are handicap races we should see some good blanket finishes. Entries are to be made on the notice on the club board at Eastbourne Complex. Everyone is encouraged to take part.

Only a hardy bunch of athletes went to Roundhay Park in Leeds for the Saucony National Cross Country Championships on the 27th Feb. The outstanding result of the day was from Georgina Rutherford who was 24th overall and the first North East woman home. International triathlete Georgina, had been for a three hour bike ride in the morning as a warm up! See some photos here of these athletes at work on the very demanding course.

Latest NYSD cumulative scores

Entry forms are now available for the NECAA champs, the Cyril Elliot open meeting and the Anne Marie Redshaw open meeting

An intrepid band of athletes travelled to Witton Country Park near Blackburn for the Northern Cross Country championships. On a cold and foggy day they gave their all over a very testing and muddy course. Conditions were not good for photography but here are some of the better pictures.

After the snow had caused havoc with training and racing it was a relief to get back to racing and the NYSD series. The Whitby event was looking precarious last week but the rapid thaw meant that it went ahead in glorious sunny weather. Despite being slippery underfoot we saw some great races. See some pictures.

Intrepid athletes braved the weather to get in some valuable training at Eastbourne recently. A good session and lots of fun.

We are hosting the championships at Branksome school on December the 12th. The course has been prepared, and  arrangements made for the use of the school and premises. Car parking will be on the roadside at Egglestone View and Staindrop Road as well as in the Mowden Pub car park. All we need now is good weather and some volunteers. We can do nothing about the weather but can I ask anyone who can spare a few hours on the day to contact Robin on 01325 252834 as there will be plenty to do on the day.
This is a map of the course.

The annual club prizegiving took place at the Rolling Mills Social Club and the prizes were presented by Mike Crawshaw who is head of Sport & Leisure for Darlington Council. Mike was keen to stress how important a vibrant athletics club like DHAC was in Darlington as it showed how good practice and and a strong club atmosphere sets a good example in the town and breeds success. Our success was shown by the many winners of trophies and prizes who have all had a tremendous year on the roads & track and over the fields & fells. Well done to all our prizewinners and all their supporters and club officials and helpers, to whom we are all very grateful. Here are some photos from the presentations.

February 8th
The latest round of the NYSD cross country championships was run over a very hard underfoot course at Stockton and saw the welcome return of Joe McCready who led the men's team home. The hard and slippery conditions saw a number of fallers but gratefully none serious. Linda Noble and her sister Sue Philips had a tussle in the ladies race but Sue's speed over the short course gave her the edge. See some pictures.

January 25th
The U17 men's team of Josh Philips, Chris Gaffney, Tom West and Paul Clifford were a very creditable 4th team home in the Northern cross country championships at St Helens yesterday. In very muddy conditions they came home in 21st, 27th, 36th and 45th positions respectively. Beth Ward finished 59th in the U15 girls race, her dad Jeff was 526th in the Senior men's race just behind our only other senior racer, Kevin Grainger in 421st position. See some photos.
