DARLINGTON HARRIERS AND ATHLETICS CLUB
It was a busy weekend for the
club with young athletes competing at the Durham schools championships on
Saturday 14th and an NYSD event at Acklam on Sunday 15th Jan. The Durham
championships were held at a very frosty but sunny Meadowfield course with the
best result of the day coming from Lucy Hunter who was an excellent 2nd in her
race with Katie Noble close behind in 4th place. We don't have a full set of
results but a number of athletes have also qualified for the Intercounties
championships in Cumbria on the 4th February. At Acklam we had 3 young
athletes in the U11 race and they were led home by Ellie Phillips Followed by
Katrine Stewart and Megan Philips. In the U13 girls race Stella Jones
continued her great season with another excellent and determined race to
finish 2nd. Hannah Robson suffered badly in the cold and finished mid field.
The senior women's race was led home for the club by Linda Noble followed by
her sister Sue Phillips, then Val Clarke and Rose Rutherford. In the senior
men it was Colin Taylor who again was the first club member followed by Graham
Bell, Juris Silovs and Ian Barnes. (see
some pictures)
The first 5k Park Run of 2012 saw 17 hardy runners turn out to brush off the celebration cobwebs and get their legs working and hearts pumping. With mince pies and mulled wine beckoning at the finish, 5k regular Colin Taylor, blasted round in 19 mins 02 seconds with Shirley Gibson the 1st woman home in 24.05. Hannah Robinson was the only junior to run and finished in an excellent time of 25.01. See full results on the Results page.
The previous week in the Jolly Holly Jog 10k multi terrain race at Ripon, student dentist, Jamie Rutherford, broke the form books and won his first event in a time of 36.16. Shirley Gibson was 1st U60 Woman home, Susie Stephen was 1st U40 woman and her sister Georgina Rutherford was 2nd woman overall.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ The 106th North East Cross Country Championships at Cramlington were a great success for our Under 13 girls team who came 2nd. They were led home by Lucy Hunter in 4th place with Mikaela Jordens 10th and Katie Noble 11th. In the boys race James Wood was 6th and Tom Hunter 10th which were tremendous results in a field of 48. In the under 15 boys race Connor Dummet was 33rd closely followed by James Dryborough in 36th. Emily Noble made the jopurney north to be our only finisher in the under 15 girls race. With only two ladies racing, Linda Noble was the first home with Val Clarke sprinting home as our 2nd finisher. The senior men didn't quite have a team but were led home by Jamie Rutherford, followed by his brother Simon, then Colin Taylor, Juris Silovs and club chairman Ian Barnes.
